Good to know

Do I need any Chinese to start?
No — we welcome complete beginners at A1. A free placement test puts you in exactly the right group, whatever your starting point.
Do I have to learn to write characters?
Speaking comes first. We start with pinyin and tones so you can talk quickly, then introduce characters gradually at a pace that suits your goals.
Are the tones really as hard as people say?
Tones take practice, but our speaking-first drills train your ear and mouth from lesson one, so they become natural much faster than most learners expect.
