The summit of the CEFR scale. At C2 you understand virtually everything with ease and express yourself precisely, catching the finest shades of meaning even in complex situations.
What C2 Mastery means
C2 is the highest CEFR level — the proficient user at their fullest. You can understand with ease virtually everything you hear or read, summarise information from different spoken and written sources, and reconstruct arguments in a coherent presentation. You express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely.
At this level work is bespoke: advanced writing, public speaking, idiom, humour and cultural reference, or targeted preparation for the highest exam bands. Feedback is fine-grained, focused on the last few per cent of precision, style and impact.
By the end of C2 you will be able to:

- Summarise and reconstruct arguments from multiple sources coherently
- Express yourself spontaneously, fluently and precisely
- Differentiate fine shades of meaning in complex situations
- Handle idiom, humour, irony and cultural reference with confidence
