The Lingua Nova Method

You learn a language by using it

Our method is speaking-first, in small groups of 8, guided by a placement test and a weekly feedback loop. Grammar and vocabulary are tools — real conversation is the goal from lesson one.

The principle

Speak first, polish later

Most people study a language for years and still freeze when they have to speak. We flip that. From your very first lesson you are talking, reacting and thinking in English. Mistakes are welcome — they are exactly where learning happens. Grammar is introduced when you need it to say something real, not as a list to memorise.

This is why our groups are capped at 8. In a small room everyone speaks in every lesson; no one hides at the back. Your teacher hears each student, corrects gently in the moment, and notes the patterns worth working on next.

Why it works

What makes the method effective:

  • Maximum speaking time — groups never exceed 8 students
  • Real tasks and role-play instead of drills
  • A free placement test so you start at exactly the right level
  • Written progress feedback from your teacher every week
  • The same method on campus in Santa Monica or live online
The method in numbers
8
students maximum per group
  • 1 free placement test
  • 2 lessons per week
  • Weekly written feedback
  • 6 CEFR levels, A1 to C2

How it works

Three steps to fluency

A simple loop that keeps you on the fastest path to your goal.

1 · Place

A free placement test — a short chat and a few tasks — maps you to the exact CEFR level, so you never waste time in the wrong group.

2 · Speak

Two lessons a week in a group of 8, built around real conversation, tasks and role-play. You talk in every lesson from day one.

3 · Refine

Every week your teacher sends written feedback: what improved, what to focus on, and your next step. The loop repeats until you reach your goal.

Placement & feedback

Always at the right level

Learning stalls when a class is too easy or too hard. Our free placement test finds your true level before you enrol, and the weekly feedback loop keeps you there as you improve — moving you up a group the moment you are ready, usually every 10–12 weeks.

Between lessons, the Lingua Nova assistant is on hand day and night to answer grammar questions, share lesson recordings and help you book or reschedule. It is part of the feedback loop, not a replacement for your teacher.
